Mill Law foals
      #3586441 - 10/10/2008 23:47

I'm thinking about looking at a mill law filly foal in the next few days and was wondering if there was anything I should be especially watchful for or that Mill Law tends to throw? I haven't been fortunate enough to see Mill law in the flesh.

Also looking on the net I've seen prices for his '08 foals ranging from £3250-£4500. Is that ballpark representative of his market at the moment?

Thanks

Mill Law's a good looking horse, I suppose price wise what you've mentioned isn't too bad.

what type of mare is it out of? Ive got one out of my event mare, and i think he is a nice foal. Well put together, growing a LOT, and hopefully should be smart

I asked before I put my mare to him, what his faults were (bit like when you ring and enquire about a new horse), and Sue said he seems to end up with foals with white feet! Other than that she couldnt say anything bad about him!!

PS. I got white feet!

Thanks for the replies. I think this one has black feet! the mare is IDxTB, fully recorded Irish green book but not special breeding and very limited performance, something in the region of 5 points BE and 30 BD.

What ballpark do you think his foals are selling for at the moment machannah? The one I am thinking of looking at is reasonably priced, I think.

Price is very difficult at the moment. It is definately a buyers market. There are a lot of well bred foals out there that are just not selling. What people advertise at and what they take for a foal may be very different. Some breeders will keep a foal rather than drop their price while others 'need' to sell.

That's what I'm saying Fleur, absolutely; I wonder if the prices asked are being achieved or if they are pie in the sky at the moment with the way things are.

anywhere between £2.5 to £4k ive seen advertised. Problem is you dont know what someone offers on the day, and what they accept. Go with what you feel its worth, if it doesnt look worth that money then make an offer or walk away

Thanks for your input. That's true I'll have to judge the foal first and then see if the price fits, the photo I have seen isn't the best but we all know how different they can be in the flesh!

I have a query re Mill Law. I have a lovely 15.2 Connemara X (Thoroughbred I think, but not known). She has been very successful in all she has done, show hunter, whp, winning championships in many spheres. BSJA, Unafil. dressage and this year- eventing, (out of 6 outings she was 5th, 3rd 2nd three times and 1st all at pre nov.) She has a great temperament and VERY intelligent, typical Conny.
She is now 13 and I suspect she has had a foal in Ireland as a 3 yr old. Would Mill Law be a good stallion to cover her with and also through AI or natural? She will also need to have Caslick's procedure I was told this when I bought her. I was recommended Mill Law by a friend, as he has a nice temperament too.

We've been thrilled with our Mill Law foal, (now 4yo) he's out of an IDxTB mare and is HUGE and still growing!! He has the most fabulous temperament and has won 2 intros and 8th in his other this season. I dont think there are any particular faults you have to look for, most have big ears - depends if you think in built sat nav is bad or not!!!

Hi sw123, I think I've read some reports about you boy, Spider isn't it? He sounds super and big ears isn't a bad thing in my book.

Hi

I also have a fab 4 month old mil law colt. His temperament is fab and he is huge!! All black feet, the only white on him is his star. He has lovely elastic paces. But he seems to have inherited his mum's head and neck which is a first for her foals.

Thanks again for all the replies, I went and saw the foal in question the other day and unfortunately this time I don't think it was the mill law baby for me.
