An 'I love my horse' post, and a dressage question...
      #3491793 - 06/09/2008 22:27

I really think J is beginning to come right! He is becoming so much easier on the flat, had a lovely schooling session yesterday, where I had him lovely and light and up into my hands. Then took him for a lesson today and he was super. Worked the best he has ever done on the flat and my trainer was amazed with how much he had improved. He felt so much more consistent in the contact, and I felt I could ride him up into my hands rather than keeping him under my thumb all the time.

Then gave him a jump and he was so good. He really tried every time, what ever stride he came on, and didn't touch a pole, after I told my trainer about our little school round Poplar and how we ended jumping some of the intermediate course, she decided to up his game a bit. We have been doing a lot of technical stuff lately so today kept it quite simple and put the jumps right up. He loved it! Really put some effort in and felt fantastic. Finished over a very decent oxer.

Really really pleased with him and feel like he is beginning to become quite civilised! So much so he is allowed to stay in at night now

Off to the Jays for some dressage tomorrow and was going to swap his grackle for a flash obviously. But after him being so good today I am loathed to change it and upset things. So wondered if it was worth going HC and leaving the grackle on as I am going for experience rather than to get a place

What do you think?

Thats what I figured, not like he is ever going to be a pure dressage horse (although at this rate you never know! )

IMHO if he is happy and relaxed then why change it? I always follow your posts even tho I rarely have time to reply. He sounds like such a dude. Good luck tomorrow

Nah, he'll be fine. He'll decide dressage is all good fun and this jumping malarky is a waste of time next

Definitely go HC and leave his tack the way he likes it. You'll get a mark and a sheet of constructive (hopefully) comments and he won't get upset.
You realise you're going to have to stop calling him Jerry 'Monster' if he keeps being a good boy
