Flatwork question. .
      #3491740 - 06/09/2008 22:15

Since having my interesting dressage sheet delivered to my door the other morning i have decided we need to do alot of improoving. Which im really up for doing.

When i turn onto the track so i come onto the left rein, he counter bends (sorry dont know what its properly called) so his bum is of the track, his head on the track. I was wondering what i can do to get him to bend around the turns and corners? He only does it on the left rein as this is his week rein.

I have been doin lots of work with him in the flat recently to get him into a softer more relaxed outline, and we are getting there. So i am very happy with him and he has come on really well. But it is just this one thing that i cant get the hang of!

thanks

Lots of shoulder fore and shoulder in Leg yielding on a circle to get him to step under and take weight behind and stepping into the outside rein will help too

10 meter circles in the corner, then going straight into shoulder in down the long side and again into a 10m at the other end. remember to use your inside leg to encourage him to bend round and hold your outside rein so he doesn't just fall in through the shoulder.

If you can leg yield then teach him Start on a 20m circle, and keeping the contact even on both reins use your outside leg to push him in onto a smaller circle. Then when you are on a 10m circle, use your inside leg to push him onto a bigger circle, again making sure you stay straight in your body and keep a consistant contact with your outside rein. I would master leg yielding before trying shoulder in. DO you have lessons?

good luck with it all, having an instructor on the ground should help as they can talk you through exersizes step by step.
