Doesn't seem to be on the website yet but BE Hotline updated at 6.15am says that Goring cancelled for Saturday and they will make a decision later today or early tomorrow morning about running Sunday classes.

Exactly my thoughts...although I'm supposed to be running tomorrow so will have to wait and see what happens with that. I will definitely leave packing the lorry and plaiting until tomorrow morning!

hope they make decision on Sunday earlier as I will have to leave 5.45
Says day before dressage still running today - yet again trying to avoind refunding. They also did some PN dressage yesterday then cancelled after that.
More rain forecast today so can't really see conditions improving.

there's no need to be so cynical thistle!!!! I am sure that there are plenty of competitors who appreciate the organisers' efforts to try & run if at all possible. There have been so many events cancelled again this year due to the weather that i would have thought you might applaud efforts to keep an event going. If you read the other thread you will see that competitors who did do dressage yesterday were quite upbeat about the going

But when the dressage ran yesterday there was no reason that it wasn't going to be going ahead. The forecast had said the worst rain would be middle of the day and that hadn't been too bad. In fact the worst rain was yesterday eve. Sunny at the moment!

I do appreciate efforts to keep events going, but having to wait 9 weeks for refunds in the spring at different events didn't improve my view on things.
Look at it from my point of view (and many others)
Organisers ask people not to ring - fair enough BUT tomorrow I shall leave at 5.45, having been up since 4.30.
If event cancels at 6.15am it is too late for most in early sections. I will already be on the M25 by then with no internet access and not wanting to phone the organiser as been asked not to.
With diesel at over £100 a tank I really can't afford to make a long journey just to do 2 dressage tests at a total cost of approx £200 - £130 entries, £20 start fees + diesel, not forgetting my time and that of my willing helper.
I am involved with helping and running events in my area (both aff and unaff) so know the dilema facing the organisers. I am totally aware that safety must come first and would def rather be cancelled that run in a mud bath.
Age and too much red wine has made me cynical I'm afraid!
Really not meaning to offend anyone.
I for one shall have fingers crossed hoping for sun and a light breeze to dry everything up.

I got all the way there to be told to turn around. We got the call to say it was cancelled when we were 2 minutes away at the toll bridge. Decided to go the rest of the way just to pick up my dressage sheets. They were'nt there!!
Will I get a refund as I did do my dressage? £60 plus well over £150 diesel is a lot for 2 dressage tests!

I called a friend at 6.40am just after I'd found out and she was just coming off the motorway at that point, not far away from the event.
I know they make every effort to run these events, but it was clear from the forecast that it was never going to happen and what isn't taken into account is the cost of diesel to make pointless journeys that are sometimes well in excess of 100 mile round trips.
Casper_cb - you should still get a refund as the rule is refunds if less than 15 horses have completed the xc so as it was just dressage you should get a full refund less £5 - as per the rule book if I understand it correctly!

I know, I think I was a luckier one, at least my drive was only just over an hour 1/2, the stewards said some had driven 3 hours + to have to turn back! At least we got back in time to watch Burghley!
