Cubbing - york area

To get twig out and about we are planning to take her cubbing this year. Hunting is something I've never done so a few tips on what it would be like would be greatly appreciated - is there any jumping? Would do her confidence the world of good I think.

Plus - as I dont really know anyone in the loop would anyone fancy a 5yo tagging along with them for the day? Shes usually very well behaved honest!

cubbings a great way to start for babies i think anyway. it gets them used to the hounds and the atmosphere before the serious hunting starts. normally there is the option to jump but if you dont want to there's often an alternative where you dont have to. the hunts ive been with are normally really kind and helpfull when they know its your first time and you wont be the only one. just remember while the hounds are about to turn your horses bum away from them (not good if hound gets kicked) or if your horse does kick put red bandage on the tail and stay towards the rear. dont forget to enjoy the morning.

It is now called Auterm hunting you will realy enjoy it ring up your local secretary and ask which days will suit you and your horse to start off with and they will also look out for you and keep an eye on you, have fun.

I went out for the first time in 20 years last year with the Badsworth and Bramham Moor. The hunt secretary was fabulous and all were very friendly and helpful. Plus the social scene is always worth getting involved with. Have fun :D

whereabouts are you? i'm in Thirsk, and hunt with the bilsdale, and it would be great if you wanted to join us!

we do 3 days of "hound exercise" in early autumn followed by a BBQ for £15 if that would be a start for you? then autunm hunting starts with very early mornings before the main season in early november.

plus we're dead easy to get to from york, straight up a19 and turn right!!

PM me for more details!
