Does this deserve...?
      #2347661 - 17/09/2007 10:08

a score of 45.2??
Our dressage test at Monmouth BE (Pre Novice test 112)
I thought this was a pretty harsh mark!
Opinions?
I know his outline is varying in some places, but I watched some other tests in my section which were much worse than mine & they got better marks!!
Sorry if that sounds mean..I'm slightly annoyed

I've scored 36 for a poor test and 46 for a pretty good one.. So I'm as lost as you Diane?!

I wouldn't worry, that's dressage. Although it did look ok to me, I'd guess a high 30's score but I'm not a dressage judge!

I would have said the same as you - high 30s..
Since his last 2 tests with him have been marked in the 20s I was shocked to hear that score as I was going into the SJ!
Difficult with a coloured pony I sometimes think, cause either you love him or you hate him

I've had exactly the same thing with Hen - think it's a great test and not get a great mark and then feel like a test is not so good and get a fab mark!

Could possibly slow the trot rhythm down a bit - otherwise was not a bad test.

very sad to say but ihave the same problem with my coloured 'pony' hes 15hh but sometimes you just go in the ring judge thinks pony and the mark just gets worse....... other times judge thinks oooh a nice well manerred lil horse trying his best and he gets low30s high 20s......... tis a mystery these dressage judges!!

I think you must have the same dressage judge as I had once at Pontispool I did a similar very obedient test, which could have had more 'pazzaz' and a more consistent contact but was scored harshly.
I think some judges are harsher on this aspect and then others harsher on other aspects. Thats dressage for you
But personally, no I dont think you deserved that score.

I agree with your comment about the trot Mel, but on my sheet he said that the trot should have been more forward?!?!

There is a difference between fast trot and forward trot! I used to have the same thing with Hen - she'd sit behind my leg so I had to keep chasing her along and pushing the trot along too fast. Since I've been going to different person for dressage lessons I've made Hen a lot sharper off my leg so now the trot is more forward, but slower. Does that make sense?!

I find that some judges just think anything ponyish shouldn't do BE. Quite often these judges are male. I think they just don't 'get' ponies.

I agree Thistle..
It's a shame really becaue we have as much of right to be there as anyone else..

Yes Mel, I agree & there is a difference! , but Pepper's either too forward or too fast (in judge's eyes), some judges say he's going too forward & some say not enough hard to get a balance..

He looks lovely to me,although I wouldn't claim to be an expert!! With the whole mark thing, I do think (although they try not to!) that judges either like coloureds or they don't and this will sway their descision. I find this happens all the time with the girl I groom for, she has a coloured as well, and his scores can vary from 29 to 39 when he does a similar test for both, so you win some you lose some!
