William Fox-Pitt reserve for British eventing team


  • The eventing team for the European Championships at Pratoni del Vivaro (13-16 September) may be minus William Fox-Pitt for the first time in seven years.

    The squad has been named as:

    • Mary King and Call Again Cavalier (owned by Edwin and Sue Davies and Janette Chinn)
    • Oliver Townend and Flint Curtis (owned by Edward and Robert Nicholson)
    • Daisy Dick and Spring Along (owned by Daisy and her mother, Caroline Dick)
    • Sharon Hunt and Tankers Town (owned by Sharon and her parents, Terry and Janice Hunt)
    • Zara Phillips and Toytown (owned by BGC Partners & Associates; Cantor Index and Zara)
    • Georgie Davies and Fachoudette (owned by Georgie, Nicola Spence and Judy Gardner)

    First reserve is Rodney Powell and Langarth Darcy (owned by Brook and Sally Johnson) with William Fox-Pitt and Ballincoola (owned by Michael Payne and Judith Skinner) second reserves in the UK Sport Lottery-funded squad.

    The final team of four and the two individuals will be announced after the first horse inspection on 12 September. The team will be aiming to secure a seventh consecutive team gold medal, a run which no other nation has even been close to emulating at European level.
