Training day at Central Scotland cross-country course

  • Central Scotland Horse Trials (CSHT), at Scone Palace, Perthshire, is hosting a training day on Monday 2 May with Olympic rider Eric Smiley and winner of the BHS Scotland’s Most Popular Instructor 2010 award, David Gatherer.

Eric, who won bronze for Ireland at two European Championships and also represented the Republic at three World Equestrian Games and on four Olympic teams, now coaches the Belgium eventing team.

David is a British Eventing accredited coach and popular trainer who has been a regular competitor at CSHT.

Organiser Helen Bowman said: “We are delighted to welcome two renowned trainers giving riders an excellent opportunity to come and use the excellent course at Scone Palace without the pressure of an event.

“The day also helps to raise money to improve the course for future events and training days.”

Riders will be trained over courses ranging from 90cm (BE90), 1m (BE100), 1.10n (novice), 1.15m (intermediate), with no more than five riders in a group.

Riders will be grouped together on similar abilities to ensure maximum output from each lesson.

Sessions cost £50 for 90 minutes and booking forms are available through www.centralscotlandhorsetrials.co.uk or by emailing cshttrainingday@gmail.com.
