Rosie Fry’s eventing blog: I’ve got some fantastic news to share

  • Fantastic news for this week’s blog… I am very excited to announce that Unicorn Saddlery have just joined my team as a sponsor. Unicorn Saddlery is an online horse shop selling equestrian clothing and riding equipment from top brands and at great prices; they also have a warehouse based just outside Taunton.

I am really looking forward to working with them this season and Phil Ireland (a SMS — Society of Master Saddlers — qualified saddle fitter with over 18 years experience) has been out to fit a new jumping saddle to Kitkat (Another Breakfast). It is the Albion Revelation cross-country saddle — Kitkat feels very spoilt and it even has red piping on it which will match my red cross-counntry hat silk!

We had a very busy week last week, going out in the lorry nearly every day. Kitkat and Myrtle (In Vogue II) felt it was their lucky week as they had 2 outings for cross-country schooling; once to the new all-weather at Aston-le-Walls and then to the fabulous Rosamund Green Farm (Kitkat pictured). Both were on great form and now feel very ready for Aldon this weekend.

Archie joined them for a dressage outing to West Wilts where he picked up his first ever 1st  place! He scored 74% in a BE90 test, which was very pleasing. Kitkat ran through a 3-star test scoring a great 70% and Myrtle did a BE novice test also getting 70%. A good day all round.

This week could be even more hectic as it is Cheltenham Festival, the biggest week in the National Hunt racing calendar. I am hoping to get there every day so there will be some very early starts to get the horses worked before I go. My brother, Harry, has some very exciting runners so the nerves will be put to the test.

I am competing at Aldon with Myrtle in the novice on Saturday and Kitkat in the open intermediate on Sunday. I can’t wait to get them out to their first event of the season and fingers crossed it goes well.
