Matthew Wright wins at Little Downham Horse Trials


  • Matthew Wright claimed the open intermediate section at Little Downham Horse Trials, Ely (20-22 October) on Charlotte Cole’s Hugginstown, who had arrived from Ireland only 10 days before the event.

    Matthew won the class with 7.4 penalties to spare from Marcus Roberts and Sonate V in second. Hannah Bate and Bromley Mill were third.

    Andrew James won intermediate section K on his dressage score of 35.7 riding the Thoroughbred Cudlic Earl. Pippa Funnell, who won two novice classes on Saturday, finished second on Carol Toliver’s Mirage D’Elle.

    Intermediate section L went to Francis Whittington on Jo Easton’s 14-year-old Dance Forever. Francis narrowly beat Sarah Bullen on her home-bred Manado. Izzy Taylor was third on Jackie Curtis in this section, and also took fourth place in the open intermediate on Comma Curtis.

    Sam Penn had a successful day, with a third place in section K with On A Par and fourth in section L on Fletch.
