Galbraith takes under-25s at Bramham Horse Trials

  • Emily Galbraith (pictured) held her overnight lead to win the under-25 national championships at Bramham Horse Trials by more than 12 penalties.

Emily, 19, and Crown Alliance went into the show jumping arena with four fences in hand after those lying behind her made a catalogue of errors. But the pair just tipped the final planks to claim the title.

“I thought I had one or two in hand, so once I was over the second to last I thought I’d done it,” said Emily. “It was definitely my fault I had the last down. It’s amazing to be under-25 champion, I can’t believe it.”

Georgie Spence, another CCI*** debutant, moved up from fourth overnight to take the runner-up spot on Running Brook II.

Melissa Shawcross was the biggest beneficiary of others mistakes, pulling up from 10th overnight to finish third after a penalty-free round on Swansong II.

Oliver Townend, second overnight on Eldmire Foxy Lady, had four fences down to drop to fourth.

Log back on later for a final report on the senior CCI*** and buy Horse & Hound next week (14 June) for a full report, photographs and William Fox-Pitt’s Bramham column.
