FEI announces new rules

  • New qualification rules will be place in time for the 2002 World Equestrian Games

The FEI has announced changes to qualification criteria for horses and/or riders progressing up the grades from 1 January 2002.

To achieve qualification for the next star level, horses and/or riders must:

    • Gain no less than 50% of dressage good marks
    • Incur no more than 20 jumping penalties across country
    • Finish within 90 seconds of the optimum cross-country time
    • Incur no more than 20 show jumping penalties

A qualification can also be achieved by the horse/rider finishing in the top 25%. Qualifications have to be gained by four weeks prior to the dressage day of an event.

Qualifications stand for the current and preceding two calendar years before an event and, when achieved last for the two calendar years after.

These changes, which will apply to next year’s World Equestrian Games, will be ratified in November and be in operation from 1 January 2002.

Full details of these changes can be found on the FEI website www.horsesport.org under rules.
