German dressage rider Monica Theodorescu’s 11-year-old Trakehner mare, Renaissance Fleur, has broken a leg in a stable accident at home in Sassenberg, near Warendorf.
Monica and Renaissance Fleur won the World Cup qualifier in Neumnster just three days earlier. The mare was taken to a nearby veterinary clinic for a three-hour operation on her fetlock, but her competitive future is now in doubt.
“This is the worst thing that can happen to a rider. The team at the clinic was fantastic and now we have to wait to see how things develop,”said Monica.
The three-times Olympic team gold medallist also won the World Cup qualifier in San Patrignano. She is second in the Western European league standings and already qualified for the final in Gothenburg.
