British riders head for Aachen

  • Solid international performances have earned Richard Davison (Ballaseyr Royale); Emile Faurie (Whoopi) and Emma Hindle (Wie Weltmeyer) and Fiona Bigwood (Habana 3) their places in the British dressage team for the Aachen CDIO (17-22 June).

Fiona Bigwood will also be contesting big tour classes with Afrikka, while Richard Davison will have Hiscox Karachi in the small tour.

“The decisions were taken in line with selectors’ and riders’ wishes and everyone included has earned their place in the team,” says British Dressage’s chairman of selectors David Trott.

As forthe team for the European Championships (Hickstead, 12-17 August): “The field is still very open – this is not a closed shop at all,” emphasised Trott.

    Getting to Aaachen

The Aachen CDIO (17-22 June) is so easy to get to and inexpensive – yet only a handful of Brits seem to know this.

You can drive or catch the train to Aachen, book tickets through the Internet and a hotel through the helpful tourist board and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere of world-class competition indressage, show jumping and driving.

This year, the added buzz for Brits will be watching our team in a “dress rehearsal” for the European Dressage Championships to be held at Hickstead (13-17 August), where we will be making our final attempt to qualify for the Athens Olympics.

If you don’t make the trip, look out for Horse & Hound’s full report and analysis of the Aachen CDIO in the 25 June issue of the magazine.
