Matthew made his British senior squad debut as an individual at the 2005 European Championships at Blenheim, where he finished 13th with the home-bred coloured horse Park Pilot. He was second at Blenheim the year before on the same horse, with whom he also won a team silver medal at the young rider Europeans in 2002.
Matthew is a regular visitor to Ireland to compete, and among his successes he won the World Cup qualifier and the CCI** at Ballindenisk in 2006 (Park Pilot and Grove Joucas), the CCI** at Punchestown the same year (Singalong) and has done a one-two in the CCI** at Necarne twice (2007 If You Want II and L’Aristo Du Lado; 2008 Caunton Welldone and Hugginstown).
Matthew’s father Roger is a well-known dealer; they are based in Nottinghamshire. Matthew was born in 1982.
