Teenagers lead at final of eventing spring training series
1 May, 2009
Two youngsters clinched a win in the BE90 and BE100 finals of the NAF Five Star Jump Training series at Warwickshire College on 26 April.
Mark Davidson, 15, from Penrith, Cumbria, secured the BE90 final on his horse Prince Concorde II.
He said: “This really made the long journey south worthwhile. I’ve got lots of advice from the British Eventing [BE] coaches to take away with me.”
This competition is judged on style and performance and riders receive advice from BE-accredited trainers during the day. Karen Dixon and Christie Wright were the coaches at the final.
The BE100 final was won by 12-year-old Maddie Taylor from Maldon, Essex, on her pony Dakota IV. She won her class with an outstanding score of 14.5.
“I’m really pleased with my win,” she said. “I couldn’t have done it without my mum Lynne, who took us to the qualifiers and brought me to the final.”
Over 600 different combinations entered the 10 qualifiers, which were held across the country between 14 February and 17 April.
The series secretary Fiona Saxby said: “The series has been incredibly successful and we’ve seen a high standard of riding throughout the qualifiers.”
