Grand National: tips for the big race
2 April, 2009
Horse & Hound asks celebrity equestrians who they think will the 2009 Grand National at Aintree.
Mary King, event rider : My Will
“Paul Nicholls has had such a successful season so I am supporting a fellow West Country trainer, especially if Ruby Walsh is riding — he is on fire this season!”
Mark Todd, New Zealand event rider : Comply Or Die or Black Apalachi
“Horses that have run well round the National normally do so again. Comply Or Die has been slightly off-form, but I am hoping he will run a good race. Black Apalachi fell last year, but he’s in-form this season so I’ll give him another chance.”
Katie Price, model and amateur dressage rider : Afistfullofdollars
“I usually pick either by name or colours, and with this one I’ve gone for both. I’ve been in LA all year, so the name seemed good. And as for the colours? Well of course they are pink!”
Carl Hester, dressage rider : Comply Or Die or Eurotrek
“I love Comply Or Die — his win last year was so well deserved after the bravest finish. Eurotrek would be a good outsider too.”
Robert Oliver, showman : Eurotrek
“Having tipped the Grand National winner for H&H last year, I’m hoping I can make it a double!”
