Former whipper-in jailed for assault on hunt monitor
16 March, 2009
Former amateur whipper-in Christopher Marles has been jailed for six months for his attack on hunt monitor Helen Weeks, 61.
Marles, aged 47, of Farringdon, near Exeter, used his horse to barge Ms Weeks into a ditch as she filmed the East Devon hunt in March 2008.
Sentencing Marles at Exeter Magistrates Court on Friday (12 March) recorder Ros Collins described him as an “arrogant, cowardly and drunken lout”.
Marles had apologised to Ms Weeks and admitted common assault against her.
The East Devon hunt has previously told H&H that Marles is no longer connected with them and the Countryside Alliance said his conduct "had no place in hunting".
