Anti-groups merge to fight repeal of the Hunting Act
24 July, 2010
The UK’s three largest animal welfare groups have come together in a “loose coalition” to fight repeal of the Hunting Act.
The RSPCA, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS) released a statement saying: “Repeal… would be a backward step for a civilised society.”
They plan to lobby MPs asking them to vote against overturning the Hunting Act.
But Tim Bonner of the Countryside Alliance commented: “The animal rights groups seem to be getting very excited about the prospect of a free vote, but hunting is in a very different position.
“Hunting is a minority issue and the government has bigger concerns at present.”
