Helen Tredwell's showjumper Naomi V put to sleep
24 August, 2010
Helen Tredwell’s successful 11-year-old bay Hanoverian mare — Naomi V — was put to sleep on Monday morning after breaking her pastern in the area trial at Pembrokeshire County Show on Thursday (19 August).
Naomi’s leg was successfully operated on and pinned at the Cotts Farm Equine Hospital in Narbeth, Pembrokeshire, on Saturday, but she developed a muscular complication and it was decided to put her to sleep.
Helen, from Finmere, Buckinghamshire, bought the mare aged eight in Belgium, after she had bred a foal.
Naomi was becoming a useful second-string to Helen’s top horse Opportunity B, and was currently sitting in second place in the 2010 International Stairway series behind the chestnut mare.
“She was a bit of a late starter, and it’s such a shame as she was still improving,” said a devastated Helen.
