Hunt facts: Mid Devon
7 February, 2006
Hunt: the Mid Devon has a claim to have started in 1604, but the records were destroyed by fire. The modern hunt was formed in 1937
Country: From Chagford and Belstone on the north side to Postbridge in the south. Hounds hunt the moor on Saturdays, always from a Lawn Meet, and the in country on Tuesdays. Last day is 15 April
Best thing about the hunt: “The challenge of both the moor and in-country,” says George Lyon-Smith
“We have a lot of local support and visitors who always return,” says secretary Sonia Geering.
Most challenging aspect: “To hunt within the law and the support of our farmers, who don’t sadly have time to hunt but support us,” says Guy Allman
Horse: forward-going with blood who will gallop all day, jump and still be nimble
