Eventer Pippa Funnell has been included in a British team for the first time since 2005, having made the cut for the World Equestrian Games (25 September-10 October).

Pippa said: “I am completely speechless. If anyone had told me six months ago I would never have believed them! It is a huge honour to be asked.”

The Team GB eventers for the Games in Kentucky will be:

Tina Cook and Miners Frolic

William Fox-Pitt and Cool Mountain

Piggy French and Jakata

Pippa Funnell and Redesigned

Mary King and Imperial Cavalier

And Nicola Wilson and Opposition Buzz

The non-travelling reserves are Daisy Berkley and Spring Along, Sharon Hunt and Tankers Town, Oliver Townend and Ashdale Cruise Master and Lucy Wiegersma and Woodfalls Inigo Jones.

World Class Performance manager for eventing Yogi Breisner said: “This team is an exciting mixture of horses with previous championship pedigree and younger horses making their debut.”

The eventing competiton will take place from 30 September to 3 October.

The four combinations that will take part in the team event will be chosen closer to the time.
