Michael Jung wins Luhmühlen Horse Trials CCI****, Mary King best Brit

Germany’s Michael Jung usurped his more experienced compatriot Andreas Dibowski in the show jumping at the CCI**** at Luhmühlen, Germany, today to win his first four-star — on his first attempt at the level.

Michael, 26, rode La Biosthetique-Sam FBW to a cool clear round over a show jumping track that was causing plenty of problems. This put the pressure on overnight leader Andreas, who could not afford the one fence he had down on Euroridings Butts Leon and dropped to second.

Dirk Schrade completed the home side’s one-two-three. His clear round moved him up two places with the 2007 Luhmühlen runner-up Gadget De La Cere AA.

Mary King (pictured) was best of the Brits, moving down just one place to fourth with one lowered rail on nine-year-old home-bred Kings Temptress, who she admitted yesterday does not have a natural show jumping technique although she tries hard.

Tina Cook was two places further back — behind America’s Will Coleman — after having three fences down with Miners Frolic.

Earlier in the day Ingrid Klimke clinched the CIC*** on FRH Butts Abraxxas, with Ruth Edge taking second for Britain on PC Wilson, despite riding “walking wounded” after a bad fall in the CCI**** yesterday with Marsh Mayfly.
