Famous for her Royal family as much as her riding, Zara Phillips has enjoyed a superb run of success through her partnership with the fabulous chestnut Toytown.
Young rider silver medallists in 2002, the pair were second at Burghley in 2003, missing out on the 2004 Olympics through injury to Toytown. Second place again at Luhmühlen in 2005 earned them an individual place at the Blenheim European Championships, which turned into a team role when Pippa Funnell had to withdraw Primmore’s Pride.
At Blenheim Zara made an incredible senior championship debut, winning the individual and team gold. She and Toytown went on to win individual gold and team silver at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen last year, and team gold at the 2007 European Championships in Pratoni. Zara was selected for the 2008 Olympics, but hopes of a third individual gold were dashed when Toytown was injured, forcing her to withdraw from the team.
Zara, who was born in 1981, is the daughter of the Princess Royal and Captain Mark Phillips. The Princess Royal, European champion in 1971, represented Britain at the Montreal Olympics in 1976, while H&H columnist Captain Mark Phillips, as well as winning Badminton Horse Trials four times, also won an Olympic team gold medal in Munich in 1972 and team silver in Seoul in 1988.
Zara is based in Gloucestershire with her fiance, English rugby international Mike Tindall.
