Have your say on Greenwich as an Olympic venue at Badminton

Greenwich Park, host of the London 2012 Equestrian events

Charlotte White, H&H deputy news editor

8 May, 2009

Secretary general of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), Alex McLin was today given a tour of the venue for the equine competitions during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Equestrian competition manager for London 2012 Tim Hadaway escorted Mr McLin around Greenwich Park this morning before the FEI boss travelled to Badminton Horse Trials.

Visitors to Badminton can also discuss the plans for Greenwich Park with representatives of the organising committee this weekend.

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has taken a stall at the event and is inviting interested members of the public to drop in.

There have been concerns from the equestrian community that Greenwich Park is not large enough to support a four-star cross country course and the spectators expected for the show jumping, dressage and para events, and that it will offer no legacy.

LOCOG is also attending events arranged by the Borough of Greenwich this summer in a bid to allay residents' fears that the Games will damage the park.

A public consultation is being held at the Pavilion Tea Rooms in Greenwich Park from 10am-6pm on 15 and 16 May.
