New format for top Nations Cup show jumping competitions

THE new format for the top-level Nations Cup show jumping competition for next year was unveiled at last week's FEI general assembly in Buenos Aires.

The FEI confirmed that 10 teams of five riders will take part in the eight European-based competitions — plus a team from the home nation if it is not already qualified.

But an overall sponsor has yet to be named.

FEI spokesman Malina Gueorguiev said: "There have been positive developments, but no deal has been finalised yet."

Hickstead's Lizzie Bunn, who was not in Buenos Aires, said the lack of sponsor was concerning.

"We need final details of the package so we can put our own arrangements in place," she said, adding: "Organisers are not happy about 10 teams of five — the classes will be far too long."

FEI awards for Britons

Legendary show jumper Harvey Smith — who is 70 next month — was awarded for his outstanding services to the sport.

And dressage groom Jenny Ellis, who worked for Felicity Coultard and as stable manager and flying groom for the British Paralympic dressage team this summer, won a new award — FEI Best Groom.
