Farewell to former chairman of the BHDTA

  • Former chairman of the British Horse Driving Trials Association, Lord Onslow died on May 14, aged 73, following a serious illness.

Michael, Seventh Earl of Onslow, was a keen competitor and popular figure on the driving circuit, originally driving a pony tandem before progressing to a four-in-hand palomino pony team.

He was BHDTA chairman from 2005-2008.

Alongside driving in his blue and yellow colours he hunted with the Fernie, riding Hallo Dandy, the winner of the 1984 Grand National, for a while.

A colourful figure in the House of Lords, he was known for his eccentric dress and views.
