Education plan for dressage judges proposed

Top dressage judges will receive training in statistical analysis if a new education programme, put forward by the International Equestrian Federation’s (FEI) dressage task force (DTF), is given the go-ahead.
The scheme will be in place by 2010 if agreed by the FEI general assembly in November.
The DTF met on 21-22 April to discuss the competition formula and qualification process for the Olympics, the composition of the FEI dressage committee and rule changes.
An FEI spokesman said few details could be revealed as discussions were ongoing.
Officials from the International Skating Union and International Gymnastics Federation also made presentations to the DTF on scoring in their sports (news, 23 April).
H&H columnist Richard Davison, who sits on the task force, said it opened his eyes to the role technology can play to improve dressage judging.
