Patey Hats A Great British Manufacturer
With a heritage going back to the 17th Century Patey (London) Ltd are proud to say that the skills used then are still being replicated today.
Patey Hats are probably the last traditional Riding Cap and Top Hat makers left in the UK. Based in Southeast London, Patey Hats are famous for their hunt caps that can be seen all over the world from the hunting field to the Olympic podium.
All Patey Hats are individually shaped to the customer's head using a device called "conformature and conform" which prepares an imprint of the contours and size of your head.
As each hat is tailored made, every shaped head and face can be catered for to obtain the most flattering look whilst providing a secure fit.
Did you know that the deepcrown, lowback style is a must for the showing and hunting fraternity, whilst dressage and event rider prefer a low crown height but may opt for either a rounded peak or square peak depending on the shape of their face?
Patey offers a wide variety of colours but some people prefer to supply their own novelty material and there are some Patey Hats covered in Scottish Tartan!
For those amongst you keen to learn the etiquette of traditional dress, the Top Hat can be a minefield. Whilst competing in dressage the hat should not be any higher than 41/2 inchs, whilst eventers and hunting fraternity should have a Top Hat of 5+ inchs. (Depending on the individual's face shape and build) If you are driving your own team of horses a black Top Hat is obligatory whilst a grey Top Hat would indicate you have been "hired" to drive the team.
Patey Hats are happy to advise customers of style and fit of hats for all equestrian disciplines.
