from Warwickshire College, Equestrian Colleges and Courses
Warwickshire College has been delivering equine courses since 1970 and we were the first equine college in Britain. We have been providing first rate training and education in equine studies ever since. This year is our ruby anniversary which celebrates 40 years of equine education. We have recently launched some equine courses at our Pershore Centre in Worcestershire, offering more courses and choice to local students.
All of our facilities are fully accessible and students benefit from close working relationships with local equine businesses. We have; an indoor arena with seating for nearly 300 people, a covered menage and an outdoor arena,
an intermediate standard cross country course, stabling for over 100 horses
60 well schooled, competition horses, well equipped science laboratory services including microbiology, human and equine osteopathy, physiotherapy, diagnostic and imaging services a high speed treadmill, a horse simulator, a farriery centre and two fully equipped forges.
We also have a riding club and academy to develop equitation.
The equine department is proud to have a high percentage of former students now working in the industry. Students leave Moreton Morrell with excellent business or science knowledge, which is combined with equine specialisms, which help them stand out from the competition.
Students are encouraged to think outside the classroom and there is an active learning culture. Research is pro-actively carried out by staff and students and we pioneer many projects. Students enjoy one to one tutorial support and benefit from working student and staff partnerships. Anyone who joins the equine department will be part of a winning team.
Students can also get with the day to day activities in the working horse unit, having responsibility for feeding, grooming and stabling of the horses on the yard. Students are able to develop their overall equine knowledge in areas of management and care, as well as being able to compete through the riding club. Many help with the events that take place at Moreton Morrell, including the twice yearly British Eventing Horse Trials. Students are welcome to bring their own horse to the college stables, with flexible livery packages available.
Courses are available at Moreton Morrell in: higher education; (full-time, part-time and distance learning) in: equine business, equine studies, the horse racing industry, equine science and sports science (including coaching)
Courses for school leavers are also available at Pershore and Moreton Morrell as well as apprenticeships, short courses and distance learning.
Open events and taster days take place throughout the year. To find out more email ace@warkscol.ac.uk or call 01926 318292 or visit www.warwickshire.ac.uk/equine
