The Kingshead horse rug brand has changed hands.

Cumbrian-based former Kingshead owner J W Wilkinson & Co Ltd has manufactured rugs since 1785. But last week announced the sale of the rug brand to a newly formed company Kingshead Equestrian Ltd.

Wilkinson managing director Ray Todhunter said the sale had been a “big decision”.

“The brand is close to our hearts, but the disposal allows us to concentrate on our UK manufacturing business,” he explained.

Wilkinson & Co Ltd plan to concentrate on other opportunities within the equestrian trade, in particular the expansion of their embroidery business.

Kingshead rugs will continue to be sold around the UK. Sales contacts remain the same, and distribution will continue to be handled by J W Wilkinson in Kendal.
