Simon Grieve’s eventing blog: thank you to my incredible Burghley partner, Bozzie *VIDEO*

  • We are home. The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials has once again been the most amazing experience. I feel so honoured to have ridden there, and now I have had the opportunity four times thanks to my incredible partner in crime Bozzie Buckley (Cornacrew).

This morning Bozzie was sprightly and I took him for an early stroll past Burghley House to loosen him up. Walking past the house and collecting ring brought the previous day’s excitement back. It was lovely to have an early morning moment with my boy while no-one else was around.

When we got back to the stables, Alex Knott from Oakhams Vets gave him the once over and was very happy with how he looked, so we made our way to the main arena for the final vets inspection. He was very happy to trot up in front of the crowd, basically showing off with that classic Bozzie smile on his face and passed.

It wasn’t long before we showjumped. I don’t tend to jumps many fences in the warm up of a three-day, I think its always good to try and save the best jumps for in the ring. Bozzie jumped his socks off, but I let him get a bit long in the double and we had the second part down. He held it together and jumped the rest beautifully.

This is the fourth consecutive year that Bozzie has completed Burghley, and it is his sixth CCI**** completion. I just feel so privileged to have been a part in all of it. He looks amazing, so here’s to more fun times with our super duper, special chap. Well done Bozzie, and thank you!
