Rosie Fry’s eventing blog: meet Myrtle, my exciting new ride

  • I have some exciting news to share. I have just got the ride on a lovely mare called In Vogue II (Myrtle, pictured) and would like to welcome her owner/breeder Brigitte Jacquillard and her partner, Trevor, to my team.

She is a 9-year-old, although she does not have very many miles on the clock, and I will be aiming her for a spring CCI*. I am really looking forward to getting going with her and she is a great addition to the yard. I hope we will have fun and a successful season together.

We had a fantastic day hunting with the Blackmore & Sparkford Vale on Saturday in what is probably my favourite hunting area, Ditcheat, where Paul Nicholls trains. It is serious hedge hopping territory and Rupert Nuttall, as usual, gave us an awesome spin round the country. Nothing compares to the thrill you get from jumping hedge after big hedge when the hounds are running.

My brother, George, and I took full advantage of the fact that my father was sunning himself in the Caribbean and took his hunters out. I got to ride Charlie, who we bought from Ireland a couple of seasons ago. I have been lucky enough to have him a couple of days already this season and he really is some machine! Dad will definitely be having a fight on his hands to get him back off me.

I am at Carolyne Ryan-Bell’s yard with Kitkat (Another Breakfast), Archie, the naughty 5-year-old, and new girl, Myrtle, for the next 2 weeks. She has plenty planned for me and I have already had a great dressage lesson with Jeremy Spring, It’s definitely boot camp for the horses and me, but it will be ideal preparation for us for the season.
