What you didn’t know about… The Humdinger

  • Joint-owner Carol Bardo tells H&H about her coloured and lightweight cob legend.

    Fact file

    Stable name: Dinger

    Age: eight

    Height: 155cm

    Breeding: unknown Irish

Owners: Carol Bardo & Mandy Hughes

Top results: coloured champion at HOYS for the past three years; coloured champion at RIHS three times and winner of lightweight cobs; twice won the £1,000 coloured championship at North of England

Championship tally: 52… nine this season

    Six things you didn’t know…

1 He used to hate being trimmed but now accepts it as part of his beauty routine.

2 He won’t be turned out with another horse – he has to be on his own as he’s horrible to other horses!

3 He absolutely loves his hacking and everyone at the yard rides him.

4 He got 100% at HOYS in 2009 – 50% for ride and 50% for conformation, which had never been done before.

5 Katie Jerram called him a “four-legged legend” in one of her H&H columns.

6 He won the show horse personality of the year in 2011. His connections were really touched that he is so universally liked.
