What you didn’t know about… Half Moon Delphi

  • Dressage rider Michael Eilberg tells H&H about the amazing grey with the powerful hindleg.

    Fact file

    Stable Name: Maggie

    Age: 10

    Height: 17hh

    Breed: Hanoverian

    Sire: Dimaggio

    Dam: Waldfee

    Rider: Michael Eilberg

    Owners: Jon & Julie Deverill

    Groom: Helen Babington-Smith

Best result: winner of the grand prix special at Vidauban CDI*** in Feb ’12

    Five things you didn’t know…

1 She was bred by the Deverills. “It wasn’t exactly scientific,” says Julie. “As the Germans say, put the best with the best and hope for the best.”

2 Her two full-sisters, aged two and three, are currently out in the field at the Deverills’ Half Moon Stud.

3 She was named Delphi after a wine region, but nicknamed Maggie after Julie’s mother. “I tell Mum that she may not have the prettiest face, but she can certainly move,” jokes Julie.

4 When walking in-hand, she likes to look up at the sky.

5 She’s not keen on umbrellas – something Michael and Julie didn’t know until the Hartpury Festival of Dressage in July. Umbrella training is planned.
