What you didn’t know about… Elmegardens Marquis

  • Rider Emile Faurie tells H&H about the electric horse who ‘grew up’ at the Europeans last year.

    Fact file

    Stable name: Max

    Age: 13

    Height: 17hh

    Breed: Danish warmblood

    Sire: Michellino

Dam: Elmegaardens Sisi (by Lucky Light)

    Discipline: dressage

Owners: Emile Faurie & Joanne Vaughan

    Rider: Emile Faurie

    Groom: Jack Cates

    Five things you didn’t know…

1 He used to belong to Kimi Gerd Nielsen, Danish dressage team chef d’equipe. She sold him to a Dutch dealer, from whom Joanne bought the horse.

2 Despite disgracing himself at his first international appearance at Addington, this is usually a happy hunting ground for him. He had his first ever win with Emile there, at the premier league in 2010.

3 He is warmed up twice before every competition – once in the morning, just softening work, and again 30min before his test.

4 For such a live wire, he’s ridiculously affectionate and loves a cuddle.

5 He was bred by Maria Schnoor in Bolderslev, Denmark, and is by the same sire as Laura Bechtolsheimer’s Mistral Hojris – Michellino.
