Product test: Fleece-lined brushing boots

  • We test Maxequest’s fleece-lined brushing boots during the wet and windy winter months

    Maxequest general-purpose brushing boots

Maxequest’s general-purpose brushing boots are suitable for all disciplines. They have a PVC strike pad to protect the leg from knocks and contain a layer of foam to help the boot mould to the shape of the horse’s leg.

The boots are available in black and white, in a choice of ultra short(pictured) or deep pile fleece and are fastened by double Velcro straps.

Available in sizes 1 (pony) to 3 (full) with extra wide versions available in size 2 and 3 for horses with extra bone.

    Costs around £35 per pair.

    Tester’s comments

“These boots are extremely smart and robust,” said private livery yard owner John Salter, who tested a white pair of full-size front boots with deep pile fleece.

“I have been using them daily for around three months on my 16.2hh five-year-old mare and they are showing no signs of wear, beyond a few scratches on the striking pad.

“I found the boots slightly stiff at first, but they have now moulded to the leg to give a good fit with plenty of protection.

“The thick fleece lining has settled down with use and has suited her clipped legs during the cold, wet winter. The boots have also washed and dried well.

“If I was buying another pair of these boots I would choose the extra wide version as my mare hasquite substantial bone, and the ultra-short fleece lining as I think they would be more suited to year-round use.”
