Joanna Lawson of Banstead, Surrey wants to be Horse & Hound’s Groom of the Year having had a varied career with horses to date.

Joanna worked for international three-day-event rider Anna Hilton after leaving college, and has also worked for Sheikh Mohammed supervising riding for his children and their friends.

She is training to be a Riding for the Disabled instructor at the Diamond Riding Centre at the moment, and has also groomed for a number of events including the 1998 National and International disabled Dressage Championships and musical ride displays at the Royal Windsor Show.

“You can really see the benefits for disabled riders as horse riding can be the only freedom they have,” she says.
