Horse & Hound’s quick guide to HOYS


  • HOYS 2012 runs from Wednesday, 3 October to Sunday, 7 October at the Birmingham NEC.

  • Times. Classes start at 7am on each day in both the International Arena and the Caldene Arena. The retail village opens every day at 9am.

    There is a packed programme every day, but some highlights are:

    Wednesday, 3 October

  • Showjumping: spot stars of the future in the Squibb Demolition pony Foxhunter championship (Andrews Bowen International Arena)
  • Showing: see top native ponies in action in the NPS/Baileys Horse Feeds M&M ridden championship (International Arena)

    Thursday, 4 October

  • Showjumping: watch some of our finest young horses do battle in the prestigious H&H Foxhunter championship (International Arena)
  • Showing: it’s the highlight of the in-hand season – the prestigious Cuddy supreme takes place in the International Arena

    Friday, 5 October

  • Displays: fresh from the Olympics, dressage maestro Richard Davison will be giving his insights into riding a successful test in his masterclass
  • Showing: the SEIB Search for a Star competition is very popular – head to the Caldene Arena for busy classes and informative commentary

    Saturday, 6 October

  • Showjumping: don’t miss everyone’s favourite big red wall – it’s puissance night in the International Arena
  • Showing: take your seat in the International Arena for one of the most popular sections at HOYS, the Equimax/Eraquell cob of the year final

    Sunday, 7 October

  • Showjumping: cheer on your favourite rider of the week as the leading showjumper of the year class closes the show
  • Showing: the supreme horse and pony are crowned tonight in the International Arena. But before that don’t miss those great British giants in the shire horse of the year championship.
