Focus on Godington Stud

  • Godington Hannibal

Godington Hannibal offers top-class pedigree, performance and progeny. Hannibal’s sire Roland was himself three times Champion Trakehner Stallion and produced numerous winners in hand and at top-level under saddle. Hannibal’s dam Godington Havel V was a Premium and State Premium mare, Performance Test Champion and winning showjumper with a mouthwatering performance pedigree.

Hannibal himself is an all-round performer with tremendous natural jumping ability, outstanding temperament and Trakehner charm. He won his NASTA Performance Test as a four-year-old at Class 1 Elite and rapidly mastered his chosen sport of eventing. Under Swedish international Dag Albert, he competed at Varseveld, Le Lion d’Angers, Malmo, Windsor, Punchestown, Saumur, Blenheim, Fontainebleu and the World Cup Final at Pau. Hannibal was on the short-list for the Swedish Olympic Team in 2004.

Hannibal is a versatile and successful sire, reliably passing on his temperament, movement and looks. He has produced champions from every crop and from a wide variety of mares. In 2004 Godington Stud received the Supporters of British Breeding Certificate of Recognition for Hannibal’s contribution to British breeding. Hannibal has worldwide breeding approval from the Trakehner Verband, a full WBFSH member stud-book.

An exciting newcomer to Godington Stud for 2007 is the young Trakehner stallion Contis, crowd favourite at the main Trakehner grading in Neumünster last October. The stud has high hopes for this young superstar, who offers refinement and quality to improve a wide variety of mares.

Contis’ sire is the Premium stallion Interconti, an exceptional mover with clear influence as a refiner, who has enjoyed remarkable success with his early foal crops. Interconti‘s breeding contains an extraordinary concentration of the important performance-oriented bloodlines of the modern Trakehner breed and represents a potent addition to any pedigree. Interconti is the last son of the great Consul, a sire of great influence through his sons as well as his daughters, and in both the Trakehner and the Hanoverian breeds in Germany and internationally. Interconti’s dam sire is Mahagoni, the most important Trakehner dressage sire of the last 60 years, and his dam line also produced the Bundeschampion Induc among many others.

Contis’ dam, the double Premium mare Contessa, is by the elite stallion and 2006 Trakehner stallion of the year Michelangelo, a highly significant sire graded for the Trakehner, Hanoverian, Oldenburger, KWPN, Danish and Swedish studbooks, with progeny at advanced level in dressage, eventing, show jumping and driving. Michelangelo is the top Trakehner mare sire by grading marks for the fourth year running; he produces highly rideable and elegant horses with good temperament and outstanding paces.

Contis himself is a charming character with a delightful personality, breathtaking movement and a fluent jump. Typey, sympathetic and attractive, he seems to be always on the ball. His paces show great expressiveness, lightness of foot and balance. Taken together, his graceful top-line and desirable uphill movement present an elegant and compact profile that is sure to suit mares across the spectrum.

A Roland son completes the stallion line-up at Godington Stud. Godington Tennessee is out of the legendary triple Champion Godington Tessa, a Premium and State Premium mare, Performance Test Champion and winning show jumper. Tennessee himself enjoys tremendous looks, elastic action, jumping technique and temperament. His early career was in Northern Ireland, where he was graded by the Irish Horse Board, and he has already produced Champions on the mainland. A true all-rounder in competition, he has amassed over 140 Dressage points while also qualifying for the National Combined Training Finals and being placed from very few outings at Novice Eventing.

Godington Stud is centrally situated in quiet Oxfordshire countryside, offering a haven of tranquillity for horse breeding. Established 25 years ago by owners Roger Truelove and Victoria von Wachter, the stud now breeds and produces exclusively Trakehner horses for sport.

The focus at Godington is on producing good riding horses who can go on to achieve with their owners. The Stud and its stallions have already produced numerous winners in all three main competition disciplines. A small, family concern, the stud gives personal 24hr attention to all visitors whether breeding mares or horses for breaking and schooling.
