Don’t miss Horse & Hound’s show specials

  • Horse & Hound has produced three bumper show special issues for you to look forward to — on sale 15 February, 22 February and 1 March — all of which are packed full of great features and Horse & Hound’s unbeatable shows directory, dedicated to thousands of shows around the country.

Tomorrow’s issue includes an interview with Olympic gold medallist Isabell Werth; a look at life as a show jumping course-designer; asks if the end is nigh for the traditional village show; and braves the debate on whether amateurs can hold their own against professionals.

In addition Horse & Hound’s editor gets a new three-part series — Hallowed turf — underway with a ride around Badminton alongside Ginny Elliot. The second part of the series, in 22 February issue, sees Catherine Austen rubbing shoulders with Marcus Armytage around Cheltenham and finally Charlotte Risius reveals what it is like to compete in the Grand Hall at Olympia (1 March).

Other highlights of the 22 February issue include an interview with Jos Lansink; a look at the Whitaker family tree; charting the highs and lows of riders taking the plunge into affiliated competition for the first time; a look at how much horse sport is now available on TV; and reflects on those amazing stewards who keep things running smoothly at events throughout the UK.

In the final show special (1 March) H&H examines what has gone wrong for Irish show jumping in recent years, as well as the pressures that are facing Britain’s new generation of talented young female riders. It also looks at some less well-known names, who live the dream of competing other people’s horses, and the lengths to which they are prepared to go to keep their dream alive. Plus there is a round-up of weird record breakers and a review of the relevance of the Pony Club’s A test in today’s horse world.

As well as these great features, every issue has thousands of show adverts and listings so you can plan your season. And of course all the latest news, reports and results from around the country. So what are you waiting for? Call your local newsagent to reserve your copy to make sure you don’t miss out.
