Cartoon favourites in Hollywood spotlight

  • Hollywood director Steven Spielberg is reportedly planning to bring the cartoon character Tintin and his dog Snowy to the big screen.

Written by Georges Remi under the pen name “Herge”, the cartoon character Tintin first appeared in a Belgian newspaper in 1929.

Tintin, accompanied by his faithful Fox Terrier, Snowy, together with the duo’s friends Captain Haddock, Thompson and Thompson and Professor Cuthbert Calculus embarked on more than 20 adventures.

Their exploits proved immensely popular with both adults and children and were subsequently translated into more than 50 languages worldwide.

In a joint project for Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures, Spielberg looks set to begin filming in spring 2003.
