Bald dog found abandoned

  • The RSPCA is appealing for information after a young dog was found abandoned on the Celtic Manor Resort golf course in Newport, Wales, on last week.

The West Highland Terrier bitch, that has been named Annie, is thought to be aged between 10 – 12 months old.

She had been running loose in the area for at least a couple of weeks, but some local children eventually managed to catch her and took her to the RSPCA Newport Animal Centre in Ringland.

Staff at the animal centre were horrified to discover that she was covered in mange and was completely bald with only hair left on her head. Her paws were so sore she could barely walk and her nails were very long, which indicates that she had been kept inside for some time before being abandoned.

Staff at the animal centre are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Animal Care Assistant Julie Davies said: “I have never seen a dog in such a state as Annie was when she came in yesterday. She was extremely frightened and hungry and she has obviously been through a lot.

“Annie is settling in quite well and is being treated daily with antibiotics and special ointments for her skin condition. I would appeal to anyone who has any information on who could have abandoned Annie to contact us here at the animal centre.”

Anyone with information about Annie can contact Newport Animal Centre (tel: 01633 412049).
