The Road to the Badminton Mitsubishi Motors Cup: a little bit of horse envy

  • Yesterday (Tuesday 3 May) was day two of the Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton and I don’t quite know where it went.

I was up at 6.30am mostly because that was when the sun was shinning into my tent and next door’s generator started up! I went and gave Sara (Donner Sara B) her breakfast, and then came back for my bacon sandwich and a cup of tea.

I milled around for the morning and took Sara out for a quick hand graze before watching some of my fellow competitors do their dressage. All of the horses were going beautifully and I was getting a little bit of horse envy.

While the dressage was on a lunch break, I schooled Sara in the warm-up field. I was just working on getting her loosened up, then handed her over to mum for another hand graze before heading off for another cross-country course walk. This time the delegate who was meant to be walking the course with us didn’t show up so I went by myself and used my cross-country app to work to out where my minute markers will be.

By the time I was back at the lorry I decided to take Sara for another ride. This time we went for a hack around the fields. We had a little gallop along a hedgerow and through a wood and could see the dressage and show jumping arenas — it really did look amazing.

All the riders were invited to welcome drinks at a marquee next to the famous Lake (pictured top). It really did make me feel very special to be there. Sara is now ready for her big day. Let’s just kick on and hope for the best.

    Love Carrie (and Sara)
